JELL-O MOLD WORKSHOP

The Jell-O Mold Competition partnered with the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and Eyebeam Art + Technology Center to take Jell-O on a whirlwind tour through New York City with a Jell-O Mold Workshop for high school students interested in food, design, and technology!

Student teams, comprised of members of Cooper-Hewitt's Design Scholars Program, worked with designers to develop and create molds using traditional techniques and 3-D printing technology to enter into the 2011 Jell-O Mold Competition.

Workshop sessions were generously hosted at Cooper-Hewitt, Eyebeam Art + Technology Center, and Smart Design.

The Jell-O Mold Workshop schedule was as follows:

April 26:  Ideation Session
May 2: Introduction to Molds
May 4: Mold Prototyping
May 5: Mold Building
May 7: Jell-O Cooking and Recipes

Final student designs were unveiled on Saturday, June 25, 2011!

This workshop was only as good as the students in it--and for that alone we can say it was a big success!  Thank you for your energy, enthusiasm, ideas, and willingness to get Jell-O . . . everywhere.

We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to our amazing Jell-O Mold Design crew--Monica Bhatia, Carla Diana, Mike Glaser, Oscar Lopez, Peter Pracilio, and Ingrid Zweifel--who worked with students to develop concepts and realize them in Jell-O and to workshop instructors Ben Cohen, Ted Southern, and Brian Sullivan for providing information to get everyone going.

We wish to extend a very big thank you to Monica Harriss at Cooper-Hewitt and Stephanie Pereira at Eyebeam for their help in developing and supporting the workshop from the start.  Additional thanks go to Thomas Isaacson at Smart Design, Marianna Siciliano at Cooper-Hewitt, and Matt Griffin and Keith Ozar at MakerBot.
